Covid is a global issue and varies, city by city, even day by day, here across North America, but we want you to know that you can enroll in workshops, currently posted through the first few months of 2021 and updated into the year 2021 on a monthly basis. (Founded in 2006, this format of updating new group workshop locales, times and dates have always been handled in this same manner. Should you require a private workshop, our professional photographers who lead group sessions in the community where they live, can accommodate PRIVATE WORKSHOPS on any photo topic and meet up with you and your guests on any day of the week that suits your schedule and locale selected within our active communities.) We can conform to your priorities.
As any workshop you select approaches, please know that we will adhere to the Covid social distancing directives relevant to your local community at that time, as they apply to the coronavirus, allowing you to receive a total refund or the chance to reschedule with no penalty fee no matter how long you require to make your rescheduling decisions. Please contact us toll free, 1 877 372 2231 or email us at DPABooking@DigitalPhotoAcad
IF WORKSHOP DOES RUN, MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING CONFORMS TO LOCAL DIRECTIVES
Welcome to the Philadelphia market for the international network of live and online photo classes, all under the banner of Digital Photo Academy.
This section is devoted to the Philadelphia community and the DPA Instructors who lead these workshops are professional photographers who have lived in Philadelphia for at least 10 years, usually longer.
These pro shooters also have teaching experience and they love teaching. (Not all photographers do.) They know the local retailers where you can get the better deals on photo equipment and more importantly, they know where the best photo ops are which allows us to provide you with a rotation of interesting places to shoot, throughout the year, whether indoors or outdoors, winter, spring, summer of fall. Sometimes one time of day to shoot is better than another and our DPA instructors keep us informed.
Often, the DPA Instructors even have private access to various locales in the city where they live. Themes vary from street photography and dynamic architecture, to flowers and landscapes, as well as waterscapes, sunsets, lush scenery and everything in between.
During one month, you might be invited to rendezvous in the luxurious natural light streaming in to a religious venue via spectacular stained glass windows and the following month, it might be a small relatively unknown park with very special landscapes. This is why we offer a special ALUMNI Discount to people who attend more than one workshop.
Nationally, we organize these workshops to provide variety for the participants in each local market, but we could not do it without the expertise and connections provided by the DPA instructors in each of those markets.
Phone the national headquarters of Digital Photo Academy at 1 877 372 2231 but know that each of the Digital Photo Academy markets includes a local office. In Philadelphia, that office is at:
226 W Rittenhouse Sq Apt 706 Philadelphia, PA 19103-7604

“I attended a class at Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia today with Armond Scavo.
It was a great experience; he mainly dealt with HDR techniques using bracketing shots, but he occasionally taught other aspects as well if we had questions or he thought there were things that could improve our shots. I edited all my photos from today and I must say I’m very satisfied. Thank you and Armond again for this great experience, and I hope to attend other classes of DPA again in the future.”
“Thank you very much. I had a good time, and learned so much from you today. I feel more comfortable with my camera, and know that I still have more to learn.”

“I really enjoyed your class – thanks for all your feedback. I’ve edited and complied my favorites, incorporating some of your suggestions. I couldn’t decide between these 12, so I hope you don’t mind a couple extra. I’ve noticed you see things that I can’t quite put my finger on, so just choose your favorite 5-10 to comment on. I look forward to your feedback and suggestions! I put them up on a Flickr set, but let me know if you have trouble or would like the files. ”
“Sunday past was Father’s Day and what better way to start it than with a DPA class!! I attended the Photo Session in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square with Armond Scarvo. Being taught by Armond was a real treat as he’s a highly accomplished photographer and a fantastic instructor. His knowledge of Philadelphia and the Rittenhouse Square was only surpassed by his knowledge of photography. Simply amazing!! I really liked Armond’s instruction style as he first made sure students were comfortable with the basics of their camera, and then following a brief discussion on composition, he turned everyone loose. I think a few students were uncomfortable with going out so quickly but that was the beauty of it. The process really challenged students to shoot things in a way that resonates with them, not the way their instructor or someone else does; and actually after 30 minutes everyone was clicking away. Throughout the day Armond gave students pointers on everything from lenses to HDR to framing techniques. I particularly appreciated his ability to address and challenge students at their respective level. One of the takeaways that he gave me was to move my eye around the edge of the viewfinder, to make sure that the composition only includes subject matter that aids in the story being conveyed. I’ve heard this before but Armond really brought it to light for me and I’ve been doing it consistently since. I also enjoyed this group of students. Although we were at various levels, there was a nice bonding that took place and I would suspect that some of us will get together again to shoot other parts of the city. At least I hope so… hint, hint guys!! Oh, Armond mentioned trying to get a DPA session for another part of the Philly area. If he succeeds, sign me up!! Thanks Armond!! ”
“Thank you so much for teaching us today – I had a blast! I enjoy meeting photographers with Different points of view- you shared with me many good pointers. My husband thought that my pictures looked better! I can’t wait to process them. Thanks”

“Your class at Liberty Park yesterday was very enjoyable. I learned a lot from your explanation of main concepts regarding composition and camera setting. Thanks again!”

“Thanks so much for a educational and memorable experience. It’s definitely one for the books. In the midst of all the excitement, I actually learned a lot about digital SLR photography as well so thank you for that. I posted a few of my photos on the Digital Photo Academy website (better late than never, right?), so feel free to take a look when you get a chance. Thanks again for a great class.”
“Thank you for a fantastic workshop in Princeton yesterday! I learned a lot and had a huge amount of fun. It was a good group of people and certainly a photogenic setting. The tips on leading lines were great, as were the tips on framing. I have started to go back over the pictures I took and was reminded that I got a couple of images that were, in effect, double-framed. I had a window behind a window, which wound up looking pretty cool.
I may post a couple to the DPA website.
I’m looking forward to taking more of these workshops and learning still more. Oh, and I already ordered a set of the close-up filters and can’t wait to play with them. Good stuff.
Hope to see you at a future workshop!”

“Thanks, Bill, for the quite enjoyable class. Sorry I had to run off at the very end – but I did enjoy the walk and trying to figure out how to view things in a different way.
I love the dramatic black and white treatment of the statue on your picture!
I am sending you over a few of my favorites. I’m still learning post production and want to learn how to manipulate lightroom a lot better than I do – that’s more of a factor of time than anything else.
I look forward to attending your class in Hoboken next month.”
“Thank you Bill! I enjoyed the class and you covered what I need to know, and then some. Starting to practice. Once I get the basics down I will be ready to learn more.”
“Thanks again for the great class yesterday. Here are a few of my favorites from yesterday. One is the upward perspective shot of the tree. A second is one of the bike baskets, from the perspective of sitting in a seat. And the third was a final result of slow shutter speed on tail lights as we ended last night.”
“It was a great session with a lot of information that I know we’ll be able to leverage in the future. I thought the hands-on advice and training you had provided while we were doing our shots was extremely valuable for me. Thank you for a wonderful session.”
– Maria Rozario
“Thank you for a very enjoyable and productive class. You helped us understand concepts that would had taken us months to figure out on our own and shared tips we might have never known. Your pictures are wonderful.
Hope to see you in another class in the near future.”
– Agnes and Fredy Irizarry
“I really enjoyed today’s class and am attaching some of my shots, some of which I have edited with the Aviary app for iPad. Although I was not able to practice most of the features you discussed, I really enjoyed learning about leading lines and framing and playing with the ISO and White balance!
I will definitely take more classes in the future and will likely purchase a better camera!! Do you have any suggestions for beginner models I should look into?”
“Thanks for your time and effort at the class this past Saturday. Although a lot of what you had to say was, refresher, I did learn about “Leading Lines” from you. I have never heard the concept expressly stated, although it may have been and I just missed. Makes sense though. Your portrait example out there in the yard can be very helpful to me as I tend to the side of what I shoot is what I get in portraiture. Well, it’s not so much portraiture as it is family snapshots. At any rate, thanks so much. I hope we cross paths again. I hope we all cross paths again.
So here are a few of the shots from Saturday. Please feel fre to critique, all of you. I can only get better if I know what I did not accomplish with my images”
“Thank you for this class! It was amazing and I learned a lot! I just wanted to thank you for it and Bill is an awesome teacher!! ”
“I went to Liberty State Park with Bill Blanchard. Lots of fun! Always cloudy every time I go!
Here’s some photos – quick editing job. Will send another email with more.”
“Happy Father’s Day! I’m not sure if you received my photos through Shutterfly yesterday. I’m planning to post a few on DPA’s Facebook page after you review them and after I edit the ones I think are ok. Or should I post the unedited photos. Let me know. Thanks again for sharing those valuable tips during our session and giving me constructive feedback on my photos.”
“Just wanted to thank you for a great class. I sent you a link to my Flickr album from selected photos from Sunday. Hope you like them. I learned quite a bit that day!”

“Richard, I took the Photo Workshop in Central Park this past Sunday and I want you to know that your instructor, Mr. Bill Blanchard was terrific! I just wish I had more time to take all these classes.”

“I really enjoyed the class this past Sunday with Phil Kramer. I learned so much about my camera.”
– T. Drummond
“I was so nervous about taking the course and making the best of what would be taught . When I met Phil, the instructor , he was so nice and calmed me down so I could concentrate and actually learn what he was teaching ! Phil taught at my level and speed . He knows everything about photography and only shared what I was ready to learn , giving extra tips here and there . I am going to be practicing what he taught and when I’m ready , I will return for the next class taught by Phil .
Thank you Richard, for seeing me through to this point . You have been a great help . And you have a great school . Even though Lambertsville was a trip, it’s a quant town to visit and a great excuse to get out of town !”
Thanx so much ,
-Elena Ranieri 🙂

“I really enjoyed the class, it was the first time I’ve ever had any formal instruction in photography. I was a little apprehensive about the class because of this but you made it very comfortable. Thanks for the great experience.”
– Gregory Finch
“Thanks again for the terrific class, Rick. I am thrilled with how much I learned and and was playing all day yesterday with my camera, trying new things and not using auto!! Yippee!! It was great meeting you.. thanks so so much”
– Michelle Evans
“I’m an old person who still loves film photography, but my daughter and her husband started to push me to do digital photography in the last few years. Last year they set me up for a session at Liberty State Park, which I enjoyed very much. So this year they followed up with another session at Seaside Heights. I took that class yesterday and enjoyed it also, and in particular I would like to comment on the great job your instructor did. Bill Blanchard was the instructor and was as patient as a saint in heading his students in the proper direction to take good pictures. I could make this a long letter about his patience and sincere caring about our getting something from the class, but I will just say thanks to his attitude I will be following up on additional instruction from your organization. ”
I just wanted to thank you for the time your spent with Juliana on Saturday. She really enjoyed the class and learned a lot. I will look into some additional classes for her. Can she request you?
It was great to meet you and thank you for the great class!! You are a great teacher.
Thank you again,”
“The workshop was great. Armond was excellent. He was able to explain some of the concepts I was having trouble with, and it made the workshop much better. I’ll be attending others as soon as I can.”
Thank you so much for a fabulous experience over the weekend! I learned so much and am excited to continue practicing. Brian purchased the Sony a6000 for me like we talked about, so I know it will be a bit easier to maneuver. Thanks again for everything!
Had fun with Armond.
He is a gentleman and showed a lot of patience with the beginners.
I just want to let you know that yesterday’s class with Carl and Mimi was perfect; just what I wanted. They are both excellent teachers, as well as talented photographers. They were so patient, willing to repeat information as much as I needed, but also able to challenge me to try new things. I’m excited to sign up for additional courses and thrilled that you’ve brought DPA to Philly. Thanks,
