One can get lost along the unending railing that guides along Tampa Bay on the Bayshore Boulevard. This waterfront boulevard has been listed as one of the longest continuous sidewalk in the world at 4.5 miles long and offers a photographer’s opportunity to tell a story of tranquility and simplicity with a simple leading line of this patterned barrier against the blue water.

Your DPA instructor will offer special tips to enhance the lighting, reflections in the water and patterned shadows on the sidewalk that come along with various points of the day. Try framing your image of the scene by stooping down low and taking the shot in between two of the banisters that support the railing from beginning to end. Other framing options can include tree trunks, tree leaves, even some of the gigantic outdoor sculptures that have a home along the boulevard.

From some vantage points your images can culminate with the Tampa Skyline. In other scenes, accessorize the path with dog-walkers, birds and other visitors or any options from an array of permanent residents on Bayshore Boulevard. And there are also fountains and landscape photo ops in nearby public parks. Your DPA instructor will offer composition strategies and a lesson in shutter speed control to come away with a variety of looks of the water fountains. Try a slow shutter speed to showcase the water as a smooth, velvety flow as shown in impressionistic paintings, or use a fast shutter speed and capture a crystal clear split second of stop-still status off the moving water.

Try panning as a bicyclist or jogger passes. Create a sense of action or instead, your instructor will help you adjust your camera controls to make a photo with a peaceful silhouette or a jogger passing by.

The photo ops along the Bayshore Boulevard are unending and with the composition techniques shared in this workshop, you will walk away with a foundation of photo tricks that will serve useful in all future photo shoots, whether during a family outing, sporting event, exotic travels, portraits and everything in between. You will be well on your way toward evolving with your own signature style of making photos.
