Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

This photographer’s paradise, established in 1963, consists of 140,000 acres, home to coastal dunes, saltwater estuaries, marshes, freshwater impoundments, scrub, pine flatwoods, and hardwood hammocks, as well as 1500 species of plants and animals.

Develop great understanding and timing to capture silhouettes against glorious sunrises, accessorized by lone sailboats on the horizon with reeds and birds in flight that pepper the scene. This locale is an apt setting to analyze the classic principles of composing images. Develop great insights into the power of The Rule of Thirds, leading lines, and other strategies to lead the viewer\’s eye across your canvas.

The Depth of Field option, possible with most digital point and shoot cameras as well as all digital SLR models, will help to artistically blur the background and effectively bring out the rich hues of any number of birds that you will certainly encounter.

Likely, you will meet some of the wildlife who are more than willing to pose, maybe even a few who will ham it up with your fellow students.

There is also an art to blending wildlife within the landscape for environmental portraits, solo or group. An unending variety of photo ops will be there to shoot. You may want to visit the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge again and again, in early morning with pink winter light or in early evening during other season to capture the blues, purples and oranges. Milton is always happy to be there along side of you.

Call Digital Photo Academy at 1 877 372 2231. Lots of people seem to hang up if our welcome recording comes on instead of a live voice, but we promise to return your message within a day or two if you leave one with your name and number.  It would be even better if you included your e mail address as well as the date and city of the class you are considering.  If leaving a voice mail message is not your thing, please email us at DPAbooking@digitalphotoacademy.com or Richard@digitalphotoacademy.com.
