Gates Pass is one of the most gorgeous areas in the Southwest United States. The road through Gates Pass was started in 1883 by Thomas Gates, a local pioneer, in search of a shortcut through the Tucson Mountains. The vistas are nothing short of spectacular – photographic opportunities abound in every direction.
This class will focus on the art of landscape photography – specifically photographing desert scenery. Your DPA instructor will help you capture the rugged nature and breathtaking beauty of Gates Pass.
Soak in the quiet stillness of the desert as you wait for your perfect shot – scope out the area to find the best photographic vantage point. Notice how much the light changes over the course of three hours, and learn how to adapt your camera settings accordingly.
Learn how to maximize your depth of field by lowering your aperture setting – the smaller the aperture the greater depth of field. By doing this you are able to get the sharpest focus throughout your image.
Your DPA instructor, will meet you at the visitor area ramada.
Please bring your fully charged digital, an extra charged battery (if you have one,) and any other photographic equipment you would like to use. Please dress for the weather and wear your most comfortable shoes.
From Interstate HWY 10 and West Speedway Blvd. in Tucson head west on West Speedway Blvd (becomes West Gates Pass Road at mile 4.8) for 7.3 miles. Just before the top of Gates Pass on the right is a parking area for the overlook. If you should pass the entrance, as it appears quickly, you will need to go over the pass and at the bottom there is another parking lot on the left where you can turn around.
Call Digital Photo Academy at 1 877 372 2231. Lots of people seem to hang up if our welcome recording comes on instead of a live voice, but we promise to return your message within a day or two if you leave one with your name and number. It would be even better if you included your e mail address as well as the date and city of the class you are considering. If leaving a voice mail message is not your thing, please email us at [email protected] .
